1. When and why did you decided to become a book blogger/reviewer?
While doing my internship in London I got this huge wake-up call that I knew nothing about the modern book market. During high school and college I was so invested in classes I wasn’t keeping up with trends/ current releases etc. I realized I needed to fix that if I wanted to work in the publishing industry. One of my daily tasks was going through NetGalley, so I was reading a lot of blogs. I didn’t know this community existed until then and so I decided to start my own book blog to hold myself accountable for reading, which later just turned into gushing as well as a merging with my travel blog that was already going.
2. What’s your favourite/ least favourite thing about book blogging?
There is so much I love about I really love the interactions and talking to people and meeting everyone. It took a while for me to get out of my majorly introverted shell but now that I have I don’t know how I didn’t before. My least favorite thing is sometimes getting the motivation to work on posts. Sometimes I sit around. I either know what I want to post and how to say it and everything but actually opening up my computer to type it out takes effort. Other times (like right now) I just don’t know what I want to write.
3. What inspired your blog name?
My initials are JK which everyone finds really funny so I wanted to incorporated that in there. It was a travel blog originally so the I’m Exploring part came from. I don’t fully remember my reasoning. I don’t particularly like my blog name anymore but there’s no way I’m changing it because I don’t think I’d come up with anything better.
4. Who are your favourite authors?
I tend to just read one book by each author. There aren’t many authors I read a ton by and I don’t really know the reason, but some authors I’ve read and enjoyed more than once are Linwood Barclay, Haruki Murakami, Stephen King, Rachel Vincent, Louise O’Neill and Lisa Genova.
5. How big is your TBR?
My physical TBR is hovering around 700, my electronic is about 10, goodreads is 296. Basically way more than I can get to in my lifetime. I’ve started to clean it out but it’s not going very well. I have a feeling my physical is only going to get cleaned out if I move out of state.
6. What are you currently reading?
I’m currently reading four books. Hopefully I will have finished a couple of these by the time this post goes out.
Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King as a buddy read. I am loving it so far and neither of us like going into thrillers/ horror knowing what it’s about so we both have a million theories about what is going to happen and how the second and third book in the trilogy are going to pan out.
Vicious by V. E. Schwab, I’m reading this one for a book club and I’m wondering how did it took me this long to read something by her??? This book is amazing! It kind of reminds me of the musical Wicked so far, in that you don’t know who is good and who is bad. It seems like a villain/ hero origin story.
I read about half an hour of non-fiction a day and my current read for that is Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking by Susan Cain. I have been so shy my entire life and so this book caught my attention when it first came out and I recently found a copy at a library sale so I picked it up. I prefer to own my non-fiction because I write in them and can mark them up and reference them when I need to.
Lastly, I am reading the graphic novel adaptation of Kindred originally by Octavia Butler. This is most likely to get finished by the time this goes up. Someone posted about it during a readathon so I tracked it down. It seems as though the characters are a lot more harsh than in the novel but it’s also been seven years since I read the novel so I may just not remember correctly.
7. What do you do when you aren’t reading or blogging?
During the day I do SEO and social media editing so in my free time I’m watching informational videos about that so I can learn more and get to do more of the nerdy stuff at work. I also work as a barista. Other than that I’m really boring. I spend way too much time on Instagram and Twitter. I try to work out and do yoga but that doesn’t happen nearly as much as I should. I also do DIY sometimes when I need something because it’s hard to find things that are exactly what I want for decorations
8. A silly fact about you that people don’t already know.
I can’t think of one people in general don’t know but something I’ve never shared on here is that I hated wearing jeans in college. Plus they’re torture to shop for so I only wore them about four times my junior and senior year. I made it by on leggings, shorts, dresses and skirts. I like to think I looked put together but in reality I probably looked like a mess when I wasn’t doing stuff for work.
Keep an eye on the blog for more Blogger Spotlight posts coming everyday this week!
