Let’s Chat: No Reviews Below 3 Stars?

Hello my loves!

This is something that I’ve been thinking about posting for some time. Something that I have debated with myself time and time again. I would be really interested in hearing the view of others.

There are two main reasons why I don’t post reviews for books that I’ve rated less that three stars, and here they are:

  1. Just because I didn’t fall head over heels for the book, doesn’t mean its not a good book.
I am just one reviewer, one that is not qualified in any way to pass comments on the writings of other. I am however totally loopy when it comes to book. I buy to many (do I?!) and read too many (is that even possible?!). I am relatively particular about the books that I read. Certain genres, certain tropes etc. My taste will not align with the taste of others a lot of the time, and thats okay. What I really do not want to do is potentially put someone off a book that they might love because I wasn’t enamoured by it.
  2. I really just don’t want to be unkind!
I am not a write by any means, but I understand the sheer amount of work that goes into writing a book (kinda!). Behind every book is a person that has spent months drafting, rewriting and editing their work, and I really don’t want to slate what they have done. I think of it this way, if someone came into my place of work and just started criticising my work (and potentially put others off) I would be a little bit heartbroken. That is why I do not post reviews for books I’ve rated below three stars, because it is someones livelihood and I don’t want to trample over it. Not that my little blog would have much of an impact anyway, but you get my point!

I would honestly look a conversation to come out of this post, I want to hear all of you opinions on this, especially those of you that disagree and why! Please share you thoughts below!

Peace and pages

  1. I almost only write reviews of ARCs I get and if I really didn’t like it, I will write a negative review on it. If the book is just not my taste, I usually won’t give it a really low rating, but if it’s just not good or offensive, I think it’s important to write honest negative reviews and give low ratings.
It’s a lot harder to write negative reviews, but I think they are really important. If I read a book that’s badly written, has offensive language, or is overall just not good, I think I should warn others about it. If that means I’ve got to be a little harsher, then that’s a price I’m willing to pay. However, I will never just be plain mean, I’ll always mention positive points and will never tell people not to read a book just because I didn’t like it.
