Happy Saturday my loves! Hope you’ve all had a relaxing day so far. Today is the first in something that I will be trying out each month, one of my lovely blogger friends will be doing a guest post here on Tomes with Tea. First up in January we have the lovely Amy from Golden Books Girl talking about her top new to her authors in 2017. If you’d be interested in guest posting on my blog, please just drop me an email or tweet me. And now I shall hand you over to the lovely Amy, enjoy!
When I was offered the Spellchasers trilogy for review in order to do a blog tour, I’ll admit I wasn’t expecting much! How wrong was I! They’re exceptional: set in Scotland (I understood all the school references!), full of interesting magic and adventures and brilliant friendships. I then went onto the Fabled Beast Chronicles and then Rocking Horse War, and while I didn’t love them JUST as much they were still great reads.
Though I read the Other Alice in 2016, I read the 13 trilogy this year and I really enjoyed them. They’re probably the darkest middle grade I’ve read, and dark books aren’t always my thinh, but I love the characters in these and I think the worldbuilding was superb.
I hadn’t heard of Emery Lord before this summer (I know, what rock was I living under?) when I saw the Names They Gave Us in Waterstones and picked it up almost purely based on the cover. I then bought The Startof Me and You as part of a buy one get one half price deal in WH Smith for the Zoella Book Club. I devoured them both back to back in less than a week.
Nick Ostler/Mark Huckerby
I read both Defender of the Realm books this year, and even though i found the pacing too slow in one and too relentless in the other (just call me Goldilocks), I thought they were a LOT of fun, and I’m desperate to read book 3 which comes out this year after that ENDING.
What new authors did you discover this year? Let me know in the comments or come chat to me on Twitter @GoldenBooksGirl!
