Hello there my dears!
Welcome to my first update since posting my plans for reducing my TBR aka Read Five, Buy One. I am thrilled to say I’ve (so far) managed to stick with it!
Truth Sister by Phil Gilvin
I was lucky enough to be sent an early copy of this book to be part of the release blog tour. I have to be honest, this one scared me, in the way that 1984 and Brave New World scared me. It is a dystopian story set in the not too distant future where only women born through cloning are considered worthy citizens, those born through ‘natural’ means are gathered like sheep and disappear. It was a great story about technology, climate change and so so so much more. I definitely recommend picking this one up! 4/5 stars.
Sleeper 13 by Rob Sinclair
I was lucky enough to take part in the blog tour for this book. You can read my full thoughts here. Spoiler alert: I loved it!
The Nowhere Emporium
This was actually a recommendation from the lovely Amy. Everyone had been singing its praises so much that I knew I had to pick it up soon. This is a middle grade about a young orphan named Daniel, who suddenly finds himself tangled in a world he never knew possible. As with most MG books, the story is whimsical and magical. It had me captivated from the very first page and with the second book, The Everywhere Emporium coming out in September, I highly suggest you go and pick up a copy for yourself. 5/5 stars.
The Song of Achilles
This book. What do I even say about this book? I picked this one up purely because I decided to collect the Bloomsbury Modern Classics and realised then that it fit into the readathon that I am currently taking part in. I am so glad I picked this book up. It has become one of my favourite books of all time. It follows Achilles as he finds his place in the world, as the greatest Greek even to exist. Patroclus is a exiled and suddenly finds himself lodging with Achilles. What follows warmed by soul and broke my heart. Follow the two as they grown into men, support each other through good times, and face the impossible task that is that Trojan War. Is it possible to give 6 out of 5 stars? This deserves it. Full review coming soon, when I can gather my thoughts!
The Wicked Deep
This is one that I have seen people raving about for a long time and I knew I had to read it. For a start its about one of my current favourite topics, witches. The Wicked Deep follows the story of the Swan sisters who are drowned 200 years ago in the town of Sparrow, Oregon for being witches. Each summer solstice, they return to seeks revenge on the men of the town. Penny Talbot gets caught up and well, I can’t tell you anything else because I would be spoiling it for you! Now, go read it! 4/5 stars.
The Boy At The Back Of The Class
I picked up with lovely looking middle grade book because, well, I’ve really been getting into MG books recently, having realised there was a middle grade chat on Twitter and that this was the next book they planned on chatting about. I pre-ordered it straight away (it is available now!)
And there we have it! My first update! It’s been tough going but I know I really need to do this to get my TBR down to a more manageable level. If you’d like to read my original post, you can find it here.
Peace and pages
