Hello my loves!
I hope you’re all having a lovely weekend so far! Today I am bringing you a little haul. Now, before you say anything, yes I know, I am supposed to be on a Read Five, Buy One plan… Well, I failed, but I am back on the wagon now, thankfully!
Once upon a time, there was a girl who went to a ball, a wonderful ball put on by Walker Books to celebrate the release of Only Love Can Break Your Heart by Katherine Webber. Prior to attending the ball, this girl drank far too much and was entirely intoxicated by the time she reached the event.
This is the story of what happened next…
I bought books… the end!
Floored – A collaborative novel by Sara Barnard, Holly Bourne, Tanya Byrne, Non Pratt, Melinda Salisbury, Lisa Williamson and Eleanor Wood.
When they got in the lift, they were strangers (though didn’t that guy used to be on TV?): Sasha, who is desperately trying to deliver a parcel; Hugo, who knows he’s the best-looking guy in the lift and is eyeing up Velvet, who knows what that look means when you hear her name and it doesn’t match the way she looks, or the way she talks; Dawson, who was on TV, but isn’t as good-looking as he was a few years ago and is desperately hoping no one recognizes him; Kaitlyn, who’s losing her sight but won’t admit it, and who used to have a poster of Dawson on her bedroom wall, and Joe, who shouldn’t be here at all, but who wants to be here the most. And one more person, who will bring them together again on the same day every year.
Wing Jones by Katherine Webber
Jandy Nelson meets Friday Night Lights: a sweeping story about love and family from an exceptional new voice in YA. With a grandmother from China and another from Ghana, fifteen-year-old Wing Jones is often caught between worlds. But when tragedy strikes, Wing discovers a talent for running she never knew she had. Wing’s speed could bring her family everything it needs. It could also stop Wing getting the one thing she wants.
Only Love Can Break Your Heart by Katherine Webber
Sometimes a broken heart is all you need to set you free… Reiko loves the endless sky and electric colours of the Californian desert. It is a refuge from an increasingly claustrophobic life of family pressures and her own secrets. Then she meets Seth, a boy who shares a love of the desert and her yearning for a different kind of life. But Reiko and Seth both want something the other can’t give them. As summer ends, things begin to fall apart. But the end of love can sometimes be the beginning of you…
Tangleweed and Brine by Deirdre Sullivan
Tangled tales of earth, salty tales of water. Bewitched retellings of thirteen classic fairy-tales with brave and resilient heroines. Tales of blood and intrigue, betrayal and enchantment from a leading Irish YA author. With 13 stunning black and white illustrations by new Irish illustrator Karen Vaughan.
And there we have it… The books I bought when I shouldn’t have been buying books… Have you read any of the books I’ve listed above? I’d love to know your thoughts on them!
Peace and pages
Amy
