The Swansea Blogger Collective – Meet Up #1

Hello my loves,

It still feels awfully surreal that I am sat here on a Sunday afternoon, having just come home from the first meet-up, writing this post.

Just a month ago, after seeing just how much was going on with the Northern bloggers, with their meet-ups etc, I tweeted to see if it would be possible to set something similar up, but more locally, for us bloggers based in South Wales.

The wonderful Twitter Guy from Waterstones Swansea responded, loved the idea, and ran with it. The birth of the Swansea Bloggers Collective happened, and the rest, as they say, is history!

The Swansea Bloggers Collective

So, what and who are we? We are a group of local(ish) book bloggers, book reviewers, writers and just all-round awesome people. We meet on a monthly basis to talk all things books, reviewing, blogging, writing, tech support and so much more. Along with the free books that are up for grabs (as if that isn’t enough!) all attendees also receive a free hot drink from the cafe and 10% of books purchased on the day! (See full T’s & C’s). If you are a reviewer or blogger, we would love you to come along to our next meeting. It is being held on Sunday 2nd of September 2018 at 12 noon at the Swansea Waterstones store. Keep and eye on their Twitter account to ensure your place!

The Inaugural Meeting

Well, Sunday the 5th of August was our first meeting, and it was absolutely wonderful. I was so excited to see so many friendly faces there and so many amazing books up for grabs!

I got there early (as was planned, seeing as I needed to re-write my N.E.W.T.s TBR….) and sat myself down in the cafe with my free chai latte in anticipation of the meeting’s start. Slowly but surely bloggers and reviewers started to amass, and it was so nice to finally put faces to Twitter handles!

At 12 noon we were led upstairs to the 5th floor of the building, which is beautiful by the way (the first ever cinema in Wales, built in the 1910’s, how cool is that?!) and took our seats.

We chatted for a good hour about books, our blogs, our favourites, what (awesome) events are coming up soon at Swansea Waterstones and how we wanted the SBCollective to work. It was agreed that we would (sort of) fly by the seat of our pants and have more informal meetings, which seemed to suit everyone there.

The Books

This month the book selection was, well epic. As you can see pictured above, we were spoiled for choice, and me being a greedy guts, picked up one of everything!

The War in the Dark by Nick Setchfield
The Ghosts & Jamal by Bridget Blankley
All These Beautiful Strangers by Elizabeth Klehfoth
Ascension by Victor Dixon
The Island by M.A Bennet
American Girl by Iowa Riley
The Rules of Seeing by Joe Heap (keep and eye out on my Twitter as I will be giving away a finished copy of this gorgeous book very soon)

And there we have it! My post on the inaugural Swansea Blogger Collective meet-up! Be sure to come back in a months time to see what we get up to in September, and if you’d like to join us, please tweet Twitter Guy!

Peace and pages

Thanks! I might do. Next is 2nd September right? I found it all on twitter and followed you at the same time. I’m just gonna retweet Waterstones Swansea tweet with the group photo and ask Bristol if they do the same and see what happens. They might already do it and I’m not aware of it. We’ll see. But thanks for sharing and I’ll let you know if I’ll pop by on the 2nd 😊 would be nice to meet some bloggers 😊
