Hello my loves!

How are you doing today? I’ve had a particularly difficult week this week, work wise, and so what does one do when one is having a bad day? One goes to their favourite place and purchases some of their favourite things, of course!

For those of you that know me in real life or have been following me for some time, you will know that one of my favourite places in the world is a lovely bookshop come cafe in Crickhowell called Bookish. I have been known to spend a lot of time and money at Bookish, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Support local!

As you can see, the shop is absolutely gorgeous and I always find myself wanting to buy absolutely everything. Once my most recent visit, I picked up 6 books. They are a mix of fiction and non-fiction with a classic thrown in for good measure too. I also made a conscious effort to just pick up books written by women. Here is what I got!

Unsheltered by Barbara Kingsolver interweaves past and present to explore the human capacity for resiliency and compassion in times of great upheaval

Why Women Have Better Sex Under Socialism by Kristen Ghodsee, a guide for women given that capital really isn’t working for us

Schadenfreude: The Joy of Another’s Misfortune by Tiffany Watt Smith, a non-fiction all about the joy one feels at the misfortune of others

Feminists Don’t Wear Pink curated by Scarlett Curtis, a collection of essays by a diverse group of celebrities, activists, and artists about what feminism means to them, with the goal of helping readers come to their own personal understanding of the word.

I Love You Too Much by Alicia Drake, follows a quiet boy who makes an astonishing discovery and confronts that brutal turning point in adolescence when he learns he must leave the privileges of naivety behind.

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, contains fiery love, shocking twists of fate, and tragic mysteries that put a lonely governess in jeopardy.

 

And there we have it, my (possibly) final book of 2018! I cannot believe how quickly this year has passed by and I’m excited to share with you my favourite books of the year and planning out some posts for the new year. Have you read any of these books? Let me know in the comments below.
